    In groups of three, students were assigned a forensics career to investigate. Students were required to research the career description, it's importance to solving crimes, training involved, where you could work in that career the salary, training required and where you would train for the profession. Students used the COIN Database in NC Wise Owl (High School Zone --> Careers --> COIN Career) for their research in addition to web resources. Students then created a Glog and presented it to the class.

    In order to build Global Awareness in the Visual Arts classroom, students completed a mini-research project on a global issue. They communicated their understanding of the global issue through writing (an editorial article) and through visual avenues (a tag cloud, a propoganda poster/Glogster, an abstract sculpture, and a podcast). Students also better understood copyright laws as it applies to their own work and the work of others.
    Day 1: The teacher discussed the global issues project with students and the minimum information required for their editorial article. Students completed a 21st Century Skills pre-assessment. {VisualArts21stCenturySkills.pdf}

    Day 20: In the library, students displayed their sculptures and glogster/podcast on laptops. The class toured and assessed each other's work. Other classes were invited to participate in the art exhibition and complete a peer assessment. The MHS Business Alliance also participated by viewing students' artwork, asking questions, and learning more about the technology used by students at MHS.

    Students in groups of 4 will be assigned a health disorder to research. Collected research information will be communicated by the group through a wiki page. Each wiki page must include information about the disorder, prognosis, treatment, etc. as described on the assignment handout. Sources of information must be high-quality, and at least one source must be from NCWise Owl--(Professional Zone --> Health --> Health Professional DB) Students will be responsible for presenting the health disorder and wiki to the class in an engaging and creative way--this may include having an interactive feature on the wiki, using a teaching strategy, etc.

    APCultureAP Human Geography--Culture--
    This project was created to help students gain a better understanding of cultural diffusion. Students got an overview of the topic and the assignment in the classroom.
    In this project we used Wikispaces for Educators ( http://www.wikispaces.com/content/teacher ) as a wiki platform.
    ...
    Following the lesson, students were able to build impressive wikis that included everything from games, videos, audio and pictures. For images, we encouraged students to use Copyright Friendly Resources on NC Wise Owl (High School Zone-->Copyright Friendly Images). One of the best examples the wikis students made is:

    APReviewAP Human Geography
    For students who take an AP course in the fall on a block schedule, one of the biggest challenges is to retain the information for the AP test in May. To help with this challenge, the media specialist and teacher collaborated and had students create a wiki that could serve as review material for each unit covered in the course. The requirements are located on the home page of the wiki. Each unit is listed on the sidebar with a link to the page.

    A Help Wanted Advertisement is a good way to move students from creating an old school poster to creating a multi-media project that they can present in front of a class. Students researched a career using the COIN Database and the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook.
